2016 European Track Cycling Championships
Olympic Champions unite!
MONTIGNY-LE-BRETONNEUX, France, 6th October, 2016/PRNewswire/ - Just a few weeks after the Rio Olympic Games, the National Velodrome in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines is preparing to host a new international event, the 2016 European Track Cycling Championships.
After the 2015 World Track Championships which were particularly successful from a sports, popular, and media perspective, the French Cycling Federation and National Velodrome in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines were awarded the organisation of this competition by the European Cycling Union in January 2016.
From 19 to 23 October 2016, the National Velodrome will once more be the stage for the greatest European and world athletes.
For five days, close to 28 Nations represented by over 270 athletes will come face to face to vie for the European title and don the famous blue star jersey.
This will be the chance to once more witness the exceptional fervour and atmosphere within the National Velodrome. And the general public will be able to see the future generation full of promise and ambition. Mélissandre PAIN, Melvin LANDERNEAU, Sébastien VIGIER, Marion BORRAS, Benjamin THOMAS, Thomas DENIS, Corentin ERMENAULT, and a host of others have already achieved wonderful results in international competitions with the Under 21s and Juniors.
The French public will be able to cheer on the very best French track cyclists (Sandie Clair, François Pervis, Michaël D'Almeida, Kévin Sireau, Laurie Berthon, Morgan Kneisky, etc.) as well as some newly-crowned Olympic Champions.
About the National Velodrome
The project launched in 2008, thanks to the 2012 Olympic Games Paris' candidacy, the National Velodrome at Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines was inaugurated on 30 January 2014. As the New National Cycling Centre, the Velodrome offers a wide range of sporting activities, accessible by all, but also a range of cutting edge equipment to host all types of events, whether professional or public.
