Chickadee Magazine Celebrates 40 Years
Year-long birthday efforts launch with national contest for kids aged 5 - 10
TORONTO, ON (March 5, 2019)—Canada’s magazine for young readers, Owlkids-published Chickadee magazine is celebrating its 40th anniversary and kicks off the milestone year with the launch of a national contest in its March 2019 issue. With the support of Ingenium – Canada’s Museums of Science and Innovation, the Chickadee Birthday Contest will provide the opportunity for children between 5 and 10 years of age a chance to win a family vacation to Ottawa. Children can enter the contest at Owlkids.com/birthday until May 1, 2019.
“We are proud to celebrate 40 years of Chickadee magazine,” says Angela Keenlyside, Publisher, Owlkids. “A lot has changed in the last 40 years, so it is gratifying to see that a print magazine still has so much relevance and value to Canadian families. Kids continue to appreciate the fun, approachable way that Chickadee teaches them about the world and the opportunities available to them. Our partnership with Ingenium and the birthday contest is a terrific way for us to say thank you!”
The grand-prize winner of the Chickadee Birthday Contest will receive:
- A trip for four to Ottawa, ON, including flight and four nights’ accommodation at the Fairmont Château Laurier;
- A family pass to each of Ingenium’s three museums: Canada Science and Technology Museum, Canada Aviation and Space Museum and Canada Agriculture and Food Museum;
- $1,000 VISA gift card; and
- An Owlkids prize pack
In addition to the launch of the national contest in the magazine’s March 2019 issue, Chickadee will feature special content throughout the year in honour of its 40th anniversary milestone. Chickadee’s June 2019 issue will be the official “birthday” issue and will be jam-packed with birthday activities, puzzles, crafts, stories, and much more.
“Opening a child’s mind to the world around them by encouraging discovery and creativity is our goal in each issue,” shares Mandy Ng, Editor, Chickadee magazine. “We are excited to celebrate our 40th birthday in the pages of the magazine throughout 2019, as well as through our partnership with Ingenium’s museums.”
In addition to supporting the Chickadee Birthday Contest, Ingenium has also developed an Owlkids Reading Corner in two of its museums throughout 2019, allowing kids to enjoy Owlkids’ magazines during their visit to the Canada Science and Technology Museum and Canada Aviation and Space Museum.
“We strive to create spaces that spark imagination and foster creativity both on-site and beyond the four walls of our Museums,” says Christina Tessier, President and CEO of Ingenium – Canada’s Museums of Science and Innovation. “We are proud to support further learning opportunities for our young visitors through the Owlkids Reading Corners and through this exciting partnership opportunity.”
