Pilot partners with STOMP Out Bullying, the nation’s leading bullying and cyberbullying prevention organization, to help students fight bullying this school year
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (July 26, 2018) – As back to school season approaches, Pilot Corporation of America (Pilot Pen) is working diligently to help empower students to excel and to overcome their greatest challenges during the school year. Bullying and cyberbullying are at an all time high, with nearly 1 out of 4 U.S. students having been bullied. Pilot Pen’s ongoing partnership with the nation’s leading anti-bullying prevention organization, STOMP Out Bullying is designed to help “Erase Bullying For Good,” for the fourth consecutive year. The goal of this campaign is to raise awareness of this serious issue, helping to ensure that parents, educators and students are aware of the valuable resources available to those in need of support. As part of the effort, Pilot is donating 10 cents from every specially-marked package of FriXion Clicker erasable gel ink pens purchased during the back to school period, to support STOMP Out Bullying. Pilot is committed to donating $325,000 to the organization.

“Each year, Pilot Pen strives to provide students with the tools they need to tackle the school year, but after witnessing the sweeping problem of bullying and cyberbullying in America, we wanted to do our part to help erase this issue in schools,” said Ariann Langsam, Vice President of Consumer Marketing at Pilot Corporation of America. “STOMP Out Bullying’s programs can help make a difference for those most affected by bullying, which is why our company continues to help support their mission.”
Pilot Pen has also partnered with TLC star, lifestyle expert and dedicated mom, Gretta Monahan, to help parents erase bullying in their child’s life by sharing the following tips:
- Pay attention – look and listen: It’s vital to understand children may be afraid to seek support, because of this, it is important to observe and act if there are signs that something is wrong.
- Encourage them to become an ‘upstander,’ instead of a bystander: Empowering children to stand up for themselves and their peers is fundamental in helping eliminate bullying and its effects.
- Equip kids with the right tools: It’s important that kids understand that bullies can be defeated. Utilizing a strong support system can help when standing up to them. Show children they can reach out to you or another person they trust to help resolve issues, and also utilize tools provided by STOMP Out Bullying to do so.
- Monitor online activity: Bullying doesn’t just happen in the classroom and on the playground – it also happens online. Keeping an open dialogue and an eye on children’s online activity in a way that feels right for you will help you recognize signs of cyberbullying.
“One of the most important things you can do is be observant. Ask questions if something seems wrong and encourage your child to stand up for themselves and others if they witness bullying or cyberbullying,” said Gretta Monahan. “Helping your children to be empowered to speak up and speak out can make all the difference.”
