T.J.Maxx Teams Up with Laila Ali and Barbara Corcoran to Help Women Pursue the Dreams and Aspirations That Make Them Unique
“The Maxx You Project” will help women across the country with inspirational mentors and immersive experiences
FRAMINGHAM, Mass., April 26, 2017 – T.J.Maxx believes that wonderful things happen when women let their individuality shine. So, last year when T.J.Maxx spoke to hundreds of women in stores across the country and discovered that 80 percent feel stereotyped by society into specific roles and expectations, the brand knew something had to change.
In response, T.J.Maxx is launching The Maxx You Project— aimed at helping women break those stereotypes by embracing the personal aspirations or lifelong dreams that make them each one-of-a-kind. T.J.Maxx has partnered with boxing world champion, TV host, author and speaker, Laila Ali and businesswoman, investor, speaker and TV personality, Barbara Corcoran — two women who have overcome adversity, defied expectations and pushed themselves beyond their comfort zones — to help 80 women to do the same.
“As a woman, I know there are ‘boxes’ the world might try to place us in and go-to labels often used to describe us: mother, sister, boss, friend, etc., but they don’t even begin to scratch the surface of who we truly are at our core,” said Ali. “From ‘Mom Boss’ to boxing world champion, entrepreneur to cooking enthusiast, author, speaker and TV host, there is no one role that defines me. That’s why I’m really excited to partner with T.J.Maxx to inspire others to break through those labels and pursue what’s inside them.”

How will you Maxx you?
“I live by the motto that it’s better to take a chance. My goal started with a $1,000 loan, persistence and a whole lot of courage – and if I hadn’t followed my heart, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” said Corcoran. “My aim in joining The Maxx You Project is to help women find the power within them to take that one bold step out of their comfort zones, and help them be a little more them.”
The Maxx You Project:
T.J.Maxx is inviting women to head online or to select stores to share their unique dreams and aspirations for the chance to get the support to make them a reality. T.J.Maxx will then select 80 women to attend a workshop led by Ali and Corcoran this summer, where they will offer customized sessions, real world resources, and life lessons to put those goals into action. From the workshop, T.J.Maxx will select three women to receive funds and a personalized mentoring session with Ali or Corcoran.

“Last year we uncovered hundreds of incredible stories from the women that shop our stores about their unique hopes and passions. We were so inspired that we wanted to find ways in which to help them pursue these aspirations,” said Jillian Rugani, Manager of Marketing, T.J.Maxx. “Our hope is that by launching The Maxx You Project and continuing to provide women with a unique selection of merchandise, we help them stay true to themselves in everything they do.”
The Maxx You Project kicked off with a concert event in New York City in partnership with Live Nation, featuring international popstar Rachel Platten and an appearance from Ali. During the intimate event, attendees were able to submit their stories for the opportunity to participate in The Maxx You Project. All proceeds from the concert tickets went to Girls Inc. of New York City to help in their mission to inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold.
