New #RockOneSock Campaign Seen on ABC’s “Good Morning America” Aims to “Sock It” to the Issue of Missing Children
Campaign set to raise awareness and support for the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children
PR Newswire – ALEXANDRIA, Va., May 10, 2016
Throughout the month of May, in honor of National Missing Children’s Day (May 25), the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children® is raising awareness about missing children with a new social media campaign called #RockOneSock. The awareness campaign invites the public to show its support for missing children and their families in three steps:
- Take a “footsie” (a picture of your feet with one sock).
- Post it to social media using the hashtag #RockOneSock.
- Challenge your friends to do the same or donate to NCMEC.
We’ll never stop searching for our nation’s missing children. #RockOneSock this month to show your support Tweet
“There were more than 460,000 reports of missing children made to law enforcement in the U.S. last year,” said John Walsh, NCMEC co-founder and host of CNN’s “The Hunt with John Walsh.” “The #RockOneSock challenge is an easy way to let missing children and their families know that we’re never going to stop looking for them. That’s why I’m asking everyone to saddle up and take the challenge with me. Let’s all make a difference for missing children.”
Walsh co-founded NCMEC in 1984 with his wife, Revé, after the 1981 abduction and murder of their son, Adam. Along with his son, Callahan Walsh, a children’s advocate and spokesperson for NCMEC, John appeared on “Good Morning America” today to discuss the campaign’s mission and called for public support.
Campaign assets including a PSA, billboards and social media posts will be seen throughout the month. All resources are available for free and can be downloaded at http://rockonesock.org.
The campaign was created as part of Discovery Communications’ Creating Change initiative. Other partners in the campaign include the Outdoor Advertising Association of America, Cox Communications, the Justice Network and TEGNA Media.
