Amsterdam-born creative workspace, SPACES, comes to Canada
Opens first co-working location in Toronto today
TORONTO (November 14, 2017): As Toronto becomes a world-class leader in tech talent, Amsterdam-born workspace pioneer, Spaces opens its first location in Canada in Toronto’s vibrant Queen West neighbourhood (180 John St) today. Spaces Queen West is a stunning eight-story heritage building created around the concept of community and shared ideas. It is a destination for people who think and dream big – forward thinkers, innovators and game changers.
A recent report from CBRE found that Toronto’s tech talent has outpaced New York and the Silicon Valley area combined. Spaces has 60 locations in 25 countries with a strong presence in Europe, the U.S. and Australia. The workspace pioneer was eager to expand in Canada’s fast-growing start-up hub.
“Spaces is redefining the way work is done, providing a contemporary, social and inspirational environment with a real focus on community,” said Martijn Roordink, co-founder of Spaces. “Toronto being a world-class city – dynamic, culturally vibrant, and entrepreneurial – we knew this was where we wanted to open our first location in Canada. Spaces gives Toronto’s top entrepreneurial talent an inspiring place to work and meet with other people who believe in the power of a collaborative, community approach to idea generation and business growth.”
Spaces Queen West is a destination to connect with like-minded individuals who are forward-thinkers, innovators and game changers with an appetite for success. The eight-story brick and beam building with over 46,000 square feet (formerly Urbane Cycle) has been renovated into a modern workspace community with collaborative areas, team rooms, co-working space, phone booths, meeting rooms and fully furnished private offices. The rooftop patio, with its unobstructed views of the CN Tower, and two outdoor terraces on the 6th and 7th floors are ideal for brainstorming, meeting or networking. For frequent travellers, Spaces Queen West members have access to a global network of over 3,000 flexible workspace locations.

Spaces thrives through its local and global partnerships. Toronto’s own Thor Espresso Bar, an independent laid-back Scandinavian-inspired café, will be opening its 3rd location in the front lobby of Spaces Queen West, providing killer coffee to its members and the community. With a culture of interesting people doing interesting things, Spaces Queen West will partner with local community members to host a vigorous calendar of networking events and educational workshops. Globally, Spaces is the first and only co-working partner for TEDx communities, which thrives on similar beliefs of “ideas worth sharing.” Spaces offers its office space for TEDx members to host meetings or plan events.
Spaces Queen West is hosting an opening launch event on Wednesday, November 22 and invites media, forward thinkers, innovators and game changers to attend the event at 180 John St. from 6PM – 9PM. RSVP here.
Spaces is also slated to open in Yorkville in Toronto, and Vancouver and Montreal in Spring 2018.
