New York’s Soho has led multiple lives: colonial farmland … chic residential enclave … rowdy theatre and tavern terrain … the architecturally important light manufacturing zone known as the Cast Iron District … artists’ loft territory. And today? Today it’s morphed yet again—into luxury shopping turf, with every major designer ensconced in those characteristic, cavernous cast iron spaces. And by evening, still another transformation, into a quiet, stroll-able neighborhood. Yet no matter how it’s redefined itself, Soho has retained a durably distinct identity, separate even from the rest of hip-and-cool Downtown. Attracting locals and visitors alike, Soho has its own longlasting sillage, as we perfumers call it, blending high-end and edgy style.
So of course New York-centric Bond No. 9 had no choice but to create a gender-free, fascinatingly distinctive, sillage-rich Soho scent. Its centerpiece, new to our repertory, is savory, exuberant orange flower, hinted at by a fascinating trio of topnotes: sweet orange, lemony-green petitgrain, and syrupy cassis absolute. Jasmine and orris, orange flower’s heart-note cohorts, add sensuality. And then come the lingering basenotes: amber, musk, cedarwood, and—most intriguing of all—velvety oakmoss, always a beautiful compliment to orange flower.
The Soho superstar bottle, with its mesmerizing black and white whirlpool swirls, is a stunning, high-energy visualization of the scent inside, but with an extra-added surprise: a removable matching elliptical hat, complete with swirls, perched smartly atop the cap.
Bond No. 9 Soho will be on counter in the U.S. on September 15, and worldwide October 1.
