CNA and the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) recently announced Straight Line Roofing & Construction as this year’s grand prize winner of the CNA/NRCA Community Involvement Award. The Community Involvement Award honors outstanding charitable works performed by NRCA contractor members in the communities where they live and work. Straight Line Roofing & Construction selected its nonprofit partner, Food Bank of El Dorado County, to receive a $5,000 gift from CNA to help the Food Bank provide food assistance on a daily basis in partnership with over 40 local emergency food response agency sites.

“CNA firmly believes that community service and strong customer service are critical components of success, and we are proud to recognize Straight Line Roofing & Construction for doing more than their part to strengthen the community,” said John Tatum, senior vice president, Middle Markets and Construction, CNA.

Straight Line Roofing & Construction was among the many outstanding NRCA member companies nominated for their work with nonprofits. Straight Line Roofing & Construction rose to the top of the outstanding nominees for the time and resources they have consistently donated over a number of years, particularly with Food Bank of El Dorado County.

“This award is a way for us to celebrate and tell the stories of really good people, working in really good companies, making meaningful contributions to their communities every day,” said William Good, chief executive officer, NRCA.

Three honorable mentions were also awarded to:

• Aspenmark Roofing & Solar for its work with Roof Angels
• 7 Summits Roofing for its work with Brandon Schwartz Memorial Tournament
• Jonesboro Roofing Company for its work with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

Each honorable mention received a $1,000 gift from CNA.

“We are proud to support Food Bank of El Dorado County because they provide food to those who really need it,” said Jack Borba, owner, Straight Line Roofing & Construction.

“The types of people we’re helping are your friends, neighbors, people you go to school with – they’re hungry and they don’t want anybody to know,” said Mike Sproull, executive director, Food Bank of El Dorado County. “We are essentially a collection and clearinghouse, and we partner with charities in El Dorado County to provide a greater impact in our community. In 2015, we had a budget of $489,000, and because of the support or organizations like Straight Line Roofing & Construction, we were able to distribute close to $3,700,000 worth of food.”

The awards were presented Feb. 18, 2016 during the Awards Ceremony and Cocktail Reception at NRCA’s 129th Annual Convention in Orlando, Florida.
