Have you had ’the talk’?
National Money Night Talk is September 16th
American Express has teamed up with personal finance expert Jean Chatzky to encourage families around the country to sit down and talk about money and financial responsibility during ’National Money Night Talk’ on September 16th.
Parents can visit www.moneynighttalk.com now to make their pledge to set aside time and have the ’money talk’ with their teens and young adults. They can also access exclusive videos, FAQs and talk points from Jean so they know what to cover and where to start. The content has also been endorsed by the Council for Economic Education.
This resource is available now in three different tracks based on age: middle school, high school and college – so parents with young adults ready to head off to school can access the Jean Chatzky content now to start and sustain the money dialogue before and beyond Money Night.
Leading up to Money Night, American Express and Jean Chatzky commissioned a survey of parents, teens and young adults that show families, now more than ever, are having the money talk, but are in search for better tools and resources to help make those discussions more effective. Nearly nine in ten parents (88%) and 79 percent of kids are already discussing financial responsibility with one another, yet six in ten parents (62%) say they are looking for ways to teach their kids about the importance of money before they overspend.
